What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.

The universe doesn’t throw us anything we can’t handle.

You were given this life because you are strong enough to live it.

Blah…blah…f*cking blah…

We see these sayings everywhere we look. Popping up in our news feeds. Words plastered over a picture of a pretty sunset or the ocean or some dude sitting on a cliff looking pensively off into the distance…

As played out as all these sayings are, we see them ad nauseam because, as tiresome as they can be…they ring true.

It’s just one of those undeniable truths about life…

Without struggle, there are no lessons, no growth, no progress…

And that’s what I’d like to talk to you about today. Because I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you’ve experienced some sort of struggle in your life, whether you like to admit it or not, that helped to shape who you are today – good, bad, or ugly.

Your struggles have helped to shape the way you see the world and how you’d like to impact it in your own unique way, which is incredible because change and progress start with the individual. So get started!

Today’s WAKEUP Call comes with an exercise I’d like you to try, so get out your journal and a pen…

Now be warned, this exercise may put you in a vulnerable space, because I’m going to ask you to take yourself back to your most difficult times. I’m going to ask you to mentally relive your biggest struggles.

You up for the challenge? Then let’s get to it…

  1. Write down the worst day of your life – When was it? What were you doing? What was it that made it the worst day of your life?
  2. Write down everything you felt that day – Were you scared? Angry? Panicked? Depressed? Overwhelmed? Sad? Hopeless? Really think back and write it all down.
  3. Write down what you did to get through it – This might not be any one thing, but many things. Did you confide in a loved one? Did you have a good cry? Did you seek professional help? Did you take it day by day, one step at a time until the clouds began to part?
  4. Write down how you felt as you took control and started to see the light at the end of the tunnel – Did you feel empowered? Motivated? Happier? Inspired? Loved? Loving? Ambitious? Content?
  5. Write down what that time taught you – Are you stronger now? Did you learn more patience? Did you learn to be more understanding? Did you find out you’re capable of handling more than you thought? Did you learn to trust your instincts more? Did you learn what to do or what not to do in the event you find yourself in the same situation?
  6. Now read back over all your answers…

Look how far you’ve come! That sh*t was difficult and trying, and at times probably felt hopeless. But here you are – you adapted, you grew, you progressed…and I can guarantee you, there’s someone out there who needs to learn what you already know. They need to learn from your experience.

Yeah, change can be a bit rough, but we also tend to see massive progress and change after an extreme shock to the system.

Now, maybe you’ve got grand plans to change the world by helping someone or even a large group of “someones.” I’d be willing to bet that the kind of help they need, you’re uniquely qualified to give because of your past struggles and experiences.

And that’s the major WAKEUP Call today…

When we start looking at our struggles as gifts, rather than obstacles that hold us back, we can start to share those gifts with others to truly make an impact on the world. What an incredible opportunity…

Today, we are more awake to our lives, more self-aware. We’re hyper-aware of what’s going on in our relationships, the social changes happening all around us, the economy we live in, and in our core values. Herein lies the opportunity I mentioned!

It’s time to WAKEUP to the fact that we are all in this together and the only way we’re going to get through this is to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps and enact the change we want to see.

And that all starts with you, your struggles, your journey, your truth, and your growth.

Now get out there and struggle some more…and love every minute of it, knowing you’re just going to come out the other end bigger, better, stronger, and with more to offer this world.
